About
welcome to East Impressions, run by boardingoose!
it was founded in late July 2012 dedicated to showcasing mostly East Asian music (especially Chinese music) through audio and video posts, one at a time. I include a few lines describing it so you know what to expect when you press play.
I sometimes quote other sources, which include my roommate, affectionately dubbed the Roommate, when my creative juices run low. unfortunately, now that my junior year has ended, I can no longer quote the Roommate.
(edit: currently, I’m only posting Chinese music because of time limitations. if you haven’t noticed, I also lean more towards mainland music in particular.)
what makes these particular posts good? that’s up to you - whether something is “good” or not is mostly subjective. but through a variety of genres and artists, I’m hoping to find something that you’ll like.
now, the Asian music industry is colossal, and I can’t claim to know every nook and cranny. but there are so many artists that most people don’t know that East Impressions was created to pay homage to them alongside the more popular artists. in particular, I’d like to give a shout-out to Chinese/Taiwanese/HK artists, who tend to have smaller English-language fandoms compared to many other Korean or Japanese artists. there are many more great people besides Taiwanese music industry heavyweights like Jolin Tsai or Show Luo!
the (ridiculously corny) introduction’s over! let’s get down to the other things here:
✰ I’m a rising high school senior, so I’m really busy with college-related stuff. although I initially posted several times a day over the summer, my posts now usually are separated by around a week’s worth of time. I sometimes do short bursts where I post several songs.
✰ go ahead and send me an ask to recommend me some music I haven’t posted because that would be amazing. or submissions, which are equally awesome. I’m just one person feeling my way around, so it’s nice to have help.
✰ requests are a-okay! requests for artists I don’t know are even better!
✪ please remember to support the artists by legally buying their music. even buying a song or an album once in a while is better than nothing.
✰ disclaimer: all of the songs posted do not belong to me but to their respective artists.
✰ coverage right now is limited to Chinese music. (“Chinese” used here as an umbrella term for HK/Taiwan/mainland music because most English speakers know it as Cpop or C-music. also, these music industries tend to overlap. for example, mainland Chinese are big fans of Jay Chou, even though he’s Taiwanese.)
✰ as time goes on and this Tumblr becomes a little more seasoned, I’m hoping to add artist feature posts, along with the occasional playlist/mix.
✰ if you reblog, feel free to cut out all of my commentary/tags. (it’s not professional stuff. I’m just trying to give you a feel for what you might be expecting.)
✰ if you reach this, you’re awesome. thanks for taking the time to read to the end.
